National Guard, State Officials to visit Shenandoah, Heart Of America:Celiver Anti-Drug Message to students

NATIONAL GUARD, STATE OFFICIALS TO VISIT SHENANDOAH, HEART OF AMERICA;
DELIVER ANTI-DRUG MESSAGE TO STUDENTS
(SHENANDOAH, IA) – Key officials will join the Iowa National Guard and the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) in Shenandoah, IA to speak to local school children and their families about the importance of remaining drug-free. Children will receive donated backpacks and nutritional supplements.
On Friday, September 26, 2008, over 300 students will gather outside of the Shenandoah High School, located at 1000 Mustang Drive in Shenandoah, IA 51601, at 12:45pm to greet an Iowa National Guard Helicopter that will be landing in front of the school. The students and participating officials will then head into the High School’s gymnasium for a special film screening with an anti-drug message. The event will conclude at 2:45pm.
Lt. Governor Patty Judge and Major General Ron Dardis, Adjutant General for the Iowa National Guard, will address the students and families along with invited local, state, and federal officials, and Members of the Iowa National Guard Counterdrug Task Force. Senator Nancy Boettger (R-Harlan), Representative Swati Dandekar (D-Marion), Representative Dolores Mertz (D-Ottosen), Mayor Richard Hunt (Shenandoah), and Councilman James Davey (Shenandoah) have also confirmed their participation and several others are expected to attend. Kansas State Representative Judy Morrison, NFWL’s current Chair, will also participate.
